Dr. Steven Kum

Doctor Kum Wei Cheong, Steven

MD, Consultant Surgeon,
MBBS (S'pore), M.Med (Surg), FRCS (Edin), FAMS, CWSP®

Dr Kum received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2000 and subsequently embarked on his surgical training with the Royal College of Surgeons, obtaining his Master of Medicine and Fellowship in 2007.

In 2009, he completed his Postgraduate Fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney as well as at the Department of Angiology, Heart Centre Leipzig. In 2012, he completed a second Fellowship on Advanced Techniques in Diabetic Limb Salvage and Wound Care Techniques in Universita Vita Salute San Raffaele, Milan. He is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) with the American Board of Wound Management.

Since 2015, Dr Kum has been the Director of Vascular Surgery at Department of Surgery, Changi General Hospital Singapore and he was subsequently appointed as a Visiting Consultant in 2019. He currently maintains his practice at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.

Dr Kum is a Clinical lecturer in both Yong Loo Lin and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine in Singapore and is a Faculty member for General Surgical Residents for Singhealth. He regularly proctors physicians in Endovascular procedures in Europe and Asia. He is regularly invited to several regional and international meetings and is part of the organizing committee of LINC and VERVE. He is the current President of the Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons of Singapore (SVESS).

Dr Kum has a keen interest in clinical research revolving around Diabetic Limb Salvage.  He is an advocate for Percutaneous Deep Arterialization for no-option Critical Limb Ischemia for which he has authored or co-authored numerous papers.  He is the PI or co-PI for several industry or physician led studies. He sits on advisory boards for several medical device companies like Abbot Vascular, Boston Scientific, LimFlow, Pedra and Philips.  He is also a keen innovator who is currently working on several disruptive technologies.

 

Dr Tan Yih Kai

Dr. Tan Yih Kai is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1994. Between 1996 and 2006, he pursued his surgical training in the United Kingdom, completing Higher Surgical Training in General Surgery with special interest in Vascular Surgery.

Following this, Dr. Tan returned to Australia to advance his skills in endovascular procedures at Royal Adelaide Hospital and Repatriation Hospital. During this time, he also gained extensive experience in open vascular procedures such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, bypass surgery and carotid artery surgery.

Dr. Tan was the Director of Vascular Services at Changi General Hospital (CGH) from 2009 to 2015. He was instrumental in the set up and expansion of Vascular and Endovascular Services in CGH. He was also the founding member and Chairman of Wound Management Committee in CGH who started the yearly national-wide CGH Wound Symposium since 2016. He revamped the wound care service with the introduction of evidence-based and the state-of-the-art wound management techniques in the hospital, leading to the eventual creation of CGH Wound Healing Centre.
 
Dr. Tan is accredited as a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) by the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). He is a key opinion leader in wound care and is a member of the Advisory Board for ConvaTec Group, an international medical company specialising in wound and skin care products.

Dr. Tan engages in active research in the field of wound healing and has published several book chapters. He had given numerous talks and chaired workshops held for both public audiences and fellow health care providers. He was also involved in writing up an International Wound Care Consensus in 2019. He was a core faculty member for the SingHealth Residency Program for General Surgery. He is also a founding member of Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons of Singapore (SVESS).

He has special interests in venous diseases (such as leg swelling, leg ulcers and varicose veins), diabetic limb salvage (such as angioplasty and bypass surgery), diabetic foot complications (such as infection, wound and gangrene) and advanced wound care.

 

Jessie Phua

Jessie Phua

BSc (Podiatry) Aust, Senior Podiatrist

Jessie graduated with Bachelor of Science (Podiatry) from Curtin University, Western Australia and has over 10 years experience leading a Podiatry Team. She has strong clinical background in diabetic foot and sport podiatry. Her area of interest is in biomechanics of the diabetes foot and sports injuries.

In 2007, she attended a post-graduation Fellowship at CLEAR (Centre for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research) at the Dr William M Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, USA where she gained valuable insights and knowledge in limb salvage and functional biomechanics. She has also recently returned from a stint at Diabetes Foot Centre (Instituto Clinico Citta Studi Milano) in Italy during which she gained exposure on Novel Wound Care Techniques and Biomechanics of the diabetic foot.

Jessie avidly contributes to publications including “Run for Your Life” in 2009 and has also volunteered much time to promoting public awareness and education in the area of the Diabetic Foot and Sport Podiatry. She has been a Podiatry consultant for the Diabetes Society of Singapore since 2008 and is a member of the Podiatry Association of Singapore and the National Diabetes Foot Workgroup.
